Sevilla stand firm in Monchi exit

Sevilla are holding Monchi to the contract he signed a year ago that ties him to the club until 2020 despite confirming his desire to quit.

It was reported on Monday evening that the sporting director wanted to leave Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan after 16 successful years in his post, but the Europa League winners refused his request and on Tuesday evening released a statement confirming the decision.

“Sevilla, after analysing the petition presented by Monchi, to terminate his contract with the club, has decided to require compliance with the contract signed last summer linking him to the club until June 30, 2020, so Monchi will remain in his current position,” AS reports the missive insisting.

“Monchi, in his meeting with the board of directors on Monday at Noon, told the councillors of his desire to leave his post for personal reasons. The club has been assessing the situation and the final decision has been communicated to Monchi that the wish is the contract signed between the parties is respected.

“He has accepted the club’s decision and communicated his commitment to continue working with the same dedication and professionalism that has always characterised for the benefit of the club.

“The club wishes to express its satisfaction with this solution and thanks to Monchi, trusting that he will continue to perform his duties with the same intensity, quality and efficiency with which he has always acted.”
