Man Utd ‘don’t want Monchi or Berta’

Reports from England dismiss Manchester United interest in Sevilla’s Monchi and Atletico Madrid’s Andrea Berta as sporting director.

United were linked with an approach for Monchi after it was reported he wanted to quit Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan while Berta has been mentioned as he has a connection to Jorge Mendes, agent of United’s new manager Jose Mourinho.

But Sky Sports say there are no plans at Old Trafford to appoint a sporting director and Mourinho and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will be responsible for transfers, though Mendes will ‘support’ the pair.

Sevilla have also insisted Monchi will remain in his post after meeting with the administrator and telling him they expect the rest of his contract, which runs to 2020, to be honoured.
