Javier Mascherano has played down “rumours” linking him with an exit from Barcelona, although “I don’t like to cling onto anything” in regards to his future.
Mascherano has been heavily linked with Juventus by the Italian Press this week, along with his Barca teammate Dani Alves, but while the former reportedly declared him as “non-transferrable” to Mundo Deportivo, the Argentine hinted he could yet move on as he confessed central midfield was his best position.
“For me to leave Barcelona, many things would have to be considered,” he was quoted as saying by Marca.
“Talk of my exit is just rumour, although I don’t like to cling onto anything.
“The best years of my career came in another position [referring to central midfield].
“I’d like to compete more in my [natural] position, but defence is where I’ve been able to become a regular for Barcelona. I’ve earned global recognition here.”
