Sergio Ramos admits Cristiano Ronaldo is “a luxury” for Real Madrid as “he guarantees at least 50 goals a season”.
Ronaldo has scored over half-a-century in all-but-one of his seven seasons at Madrid since his then-record €94m transfer from Manchester United in 2009, prompting Ramos to have “a hard time imagining life” after the forward.
“I only have positive words to describe Zidane since his arrival, not only for what he did, what he represents and the time we spent together as teammates, but also as a Coach,” he told UEFA.com.
“Despite having little time [at the helm], he’s led the team through an important period, when we could still win the League and the Champions League.
“He’s very involved and the great player he was, he’s also shown that as a Coach.
“We try to implement the ideas he had as a player. We’ve found an excellent balance in our game and he’s bringing out the best of each player.
“Our team spirit is excellent, and reaching the final is a reward for the hard work and commitment we’ve shown after a tough season.
“No-one can argue the fact that [Cristiano] is a unique player who leads the team forward and has been doing it for years.
“It’s hard to imagine Real Madrid without Cristiano. We’re delighted to have him because he guarantees at least 50 goals every season.
“It’s very difficult to maintain his level for so many years, and he’s done that.
“As a club, we’ve had these guarantees for the time he’s been here, and that’s a luxury.”
