Liga chief reiterates Madrid support

La Liga chief Javier Tebas has reiterated his support for Real Madrid ahead of the Champions League final, but “football owes a debt to Atletico”.

Tebas has courted controversy in the past for publicising his backing to Madrid, given his role as President of the Spain’s Professional League – which governs the countrys top-two divisions – and he made no secret of that fact when asked about the Milan showpiece next Saturday.

“The intensity of Atletico is tremendous. They’re a team who are very difficult to score goals against,” he was quoted as saying by AS.

“As a madridista, I’d like Madrid to win, but Atletico are very competitive and have a big chance [of winning the CL].

“Football owes a debt to Atletico, so maybe it’s time for [that debt] to be paid.”
