Barca raise Sergi clause

Barcelona have upped the buy-out clause in Sergi Roberto´s contract to €40m as he has played in 60 per cent of their games this season.

The 24-year-old, a product of the club’s La Masia academy, has appeared in 22 La Liga games, five Copa del Rey matches, and three Champions League ties as well as featuring in the Spanish Supercup and Club World Cup.

Boss Luis Enrique has been particularly impressed by the player’s versatility. Sergi has been used mainly at right-back in the absence of Dani Alves, but has also had a role in midfield when the likes of Ivan Rakitic, Sergi Busquets and Andres Iniesta have been rested.

The Reus-born Spain international’s current agreement runs until June 2019.
