UEFA defend EL Final site

UEFA have defended the decision to host the Europa League Final between Sevilla and Liverpool at Basel’s St. Jakob-Park.

The ground has a capacity of 35,000, and the clubs have been allocated around 10,000 tickets each, leading to complaints.

“Of course, it is impossible to predict in advance which clubs will reach the final,” UEFA’s website says.

“Europe's largest stadiums are usually selected to host the Champions League final, and UEFA tends to select slightly smaller, top-quality venues for the Europa League Final.

The BBC adds that a further 8,000 tickets have been put on general sale and the rest taken by the local organising committee, national associations, commercial partners, broadcasters and corporate hospitality.
