Emery: Make history against Liverpool

Unai Emery wants Sevilla to ‘make history’ when they face Liverpool in their third consecutive Europa League Final.

Los Rojiblancos have claimed the last two editions of the tournament and reached the final once more by seeing off Shakhtar Donetsk, 3-1 on the night for a 5-3 aggregate win, at the same time the Reds downed Villarreal in the other semi-final.

“It would have been an all-Spain final. I would have liked to play against Villarreal. We prepare now for a game against Liverpool in the hope of making history,” Emery said after the victory over the Ukrainians, AS reports.

“Everyone at Sevilla enjoys this competition a lot and we always remember the 4,000 fans who came to Estoril in 2013 in the group stage. Obviously we wanted to continue growing in the Champions League, but this competition gives us a way to be very happy.

“In a semi-final you face teams that have the final in their crosshairs. We had to know how to handle moments. In the second half we reacted with confidence in our game and played a very good match. We took it where we wanted.

“Anyone who doesn’t want to grow can stay at home. We’re trying to do something beautiful in football. There is great satisfaction with the work we’ve done, the fans and what you want and need most in this competition.”
