Lahm: 50-50 against Atleti

Bayern Munich captain Phillip Lahm doesn’t see any favourites in the Champions League semi-final against Atletico Madrid. ‘The odds are 50-50…’

Vicente Calderon hosts the first leg but despite Bayern being favoured by the bookmakers, the 2014 World Cup winner insists the teams can’t be separated.

“The Champions League semi-finals are never an easy task. We’re very happy to be involved again, we know we can be champions, and hopefully this is a successful week,” Lahm said, AS reports, with the Bavarians on the brink of retaining the Bundesliga.

“We respect Atletico and we know they’re a tough team. The important thing is to focus on ourselves and not think about the referee [Mark Clattenburg]. There’ll be a second leg, which is important. We are ready.

“We beat the runners-up [Juventus] and the chances here are 50-50. It depends on the day, sometimes you’re in good form, others not so much. Or whether you play at home or you’re away. The game will be decided in the second leg. There’s no favourite.

“Naturally we remember our last semi-final. We haven’t forgotten that we didn’t get an away goal and we’re aware that we have to score. We lost to Real Madrid, it’s clear we have to score [against Atletico].”
