It’s reported Neymar wants five times his current salary to renew with Barcelona and the club have agreed to pay it.
AS claims the Brazil forward is looking for €45m-a-year from the Catalans, a huge increase on the €9m-a-year he currently receives, Neymar’s contract having been leaked earlier this week.
It’s said that the €45m requested by Neymar would be equivalent in one year to what he previously earned in five at Camp Nou.
The renewal will be confirmed in July, AS notes, as Barca would not be able to add the expense to their books before then as the club’s debt ratio has to be at a certain level in June, according to Barca’s own statutes.
AS also claims the huge outlay on Neymar is part of the reason President Josep Maria Bartomeu is looking for a high-price shirt sponsor, a renewal of the club’s contract with Nike and possibly naming rights for Camp Nou – all to help with the medium-term cost.
There is also the question of what such a bumper new deal for Neymar would mean for the contracts of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez when they come up for renewal.
