Tebas: Madrid can surprise in Clasico

La Liga President Javier Tebas believes Real Madrid can spring a surprise when they go to Barcelona for the season’s second Clasico.

Tebas, an admitted Madrid supporter, has said that while he expected Barca to thrive in the first meeting of the year – the Catalans duly winning 4-0 at Santiago Bernabeu – he sees a shock coming at Camp Nou.

“In the first leg I backed Barca more. For this game I think Madrid is going to cause a surprise,” he told Onda Cero, Mundo Deportivo reports.

“Although it must be recognised that the level of Barca’s play is stratospheric.”

Tebas has also denied a conflict of interest in his Madrid fandom, insisting his decision making as LFP chief isn’t influenced by his boyhood team.

“You can’t be hypocritical. When I meet with my friends they remind me that I’ve supported Madrid since I was eight,” he said.

“My children also know this and I don’t like to lie. But people have to be clear that my colours don’t influence my decisions.”
