Javi Gracia has signed a new contract with Malaga, tying him to La Rosaleda until the summer of 2019.
Gracia’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season but AS reports the trainer has signed a three-year extension.
Negotiations are said to have gone on for several weeks but Gracia was always clear in his desire to renew with the south coast club.
It’s noted that Gracia was linked to a host of other jobs for next season, including potential vacancies at Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad, Sevilla, Real Betis and Celta Vigo.
But Gracia is working with Malaga sporting director Francesc Arnau on preparing a squad for next season and it’s said that relationship is part of the reason he was so keen to stay, as he has a leading role to play in the club’s project.
