Javi Gracia previewed Malaga’s visit of Sporting Gijon on Friday as a must-win. “If there’s a game we need points from and the players need support in…”
A run of five games without victory has seen Malaga drift into mid-table mediocrity after threatening to compete for La Liga’s European places at the turn of the year, and Gracia urged his side to face Sporting with “a winning mentality”.
“We must approach the game with a winning mentality,” the Coach said after the game.
“These are points which can get us very close to our objective, but our opponents will also enter the game with this mentality.
“I want to send a message to our players and fans that it won’t be easy.
“If there’s a game we need points from and the players need support in, it’s this one.
“We need to give everything in order to keep the points at home.
“We have absences but we don’t regret them. We have good players who can compete and are capable of winning.
“I don’t stop to think about what’s better or worse, our absences don’t oblige me think that way.
“The most positive thing is to see what we have. We can’t always lament or complain about what we don’t have.”
