Ramos: Ronaldo exit ‘madness’

Sergio Ramos has advised the Real Madrid fans who want Cristiano Ronaldo to leave to think again about this ‘madness.’

Ronaldo scored on Tuesday night as Los Blancos sealed a place in the Champions League quarter-finals by seeing off Roma, but there remains an undercurrent of unhappiness with the Portuguese forward’s contribution this season.

“I’d say they need to think it over a little,” Ramos said, AS reports, when asked about the section of supporters who would be happy to see Ronaldo depart.

“It’s madness. He’s at a historic level and I believe he’s demonstrated that year after year.”

Ramos also revealed why he visited the Roma locker room after the match to seek out captain Francesco Totti, acknowledging a long-standing admiration for the iconic Italian.

“I went in [to the Roma locker room] because I wanted a signed shirt and for me it’s something to be proud of, I’ve admired him since I was a child,” Ramos confirmed.

“He gave me his shirt and signed it to me as well.”

The presence of Casemiro in the Madrid team was also touched on, Ramos conceding the defensive midfielder brings a lot to the XI.

“He’s a player who is technically good enough for that position and is very good physically, allowing him to cover spaces and give us more balance.

“In that sense it’s true that he helps us a lot.”
