Atletico Madrid will be without Yannick Carrasco and Jose Maria Gimenez for next week’s crunch visit of Villarreal in La Liga.
Carrasco suffered “a second-degree LCL injury in his right ankle” 52 minutes into Sunday’s 1-0 win at Getafe, according to Atleti’s medical report after the game, having been stretched off in the wake of Damian Suarez’s strong challenge.
Due to the severity of the sprain, the Belgian winger may also miss Los Colchoneros’ Champions League last-16 first leg against PSV next Wednesday and the capital derby at Real Madrid in a fortnight.
Gimenez, meanwhile, picked up a fifth yellow card at Coliseum Alfonso Perez and will now serve a one-game ban in the League.
