Gareth Bale may not make Real Madrid’s Champions League tie against Roma amid reports his recovery is taking longer than expected.

AS cites SportYou in saying Bale’s calf injury isn’t healing at the predicted rate after a relapse and while he was in line to be involved against Athletic Bilbao this weekend, that’s no longer the case.

Bale was injured on January 17 against Sporting Gijon and has had problems with his calf throughout his Madrid tenure, AS counting six injuries to the muscle.

AS adds that if Bale doesn’t make the first leg in Italy on February 17 then he stands to miss a crucial part of the season, with the second Madrid derby of the campaign coming soon after.
