Zubi: Neymar happy at Barca

Former Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta doesn’t expect Neymar to leave Camp Nou and discussed his 2015 departure.

Neymar and Barca are said to be in early negotiations but rumours in Spain claim Real Madrid hope to convince the Brazil international to emulate Luis Figo and switch clubs.

“Neymar is very happy at Barca. Very, very, very happy,” Zubi told Cadena COPE, Marca reports.

Zubi was Barca sporting director when the club were given a transfer embargo by FIFA for the signing of underage players from abroad, the same crime and punishment against which Atletico Madrid and Madrid are appealing.

“Barca did nothing wrong. [The club] complied with the law and the signings were supported by the Catalan Football Federation. FIFA argued a rule was breached, but we disagreed with them,” he protested, before touching on his exit a year ago.

“My family and those who worked with me know how many hours I worked. I have peace of mind that I lived up to what was asked of me when I arrived in 2011.

“When you leave Barca, you feel very alone. You’re left in a bad state of mind [but] I feel part of the successes of 2015.”
