Former Real Madrid President Ramon Calderon believes Rafa Benitez was a ‘dead man walking’ at the club as he was only ‘fourth choice.’
Calderon argues that with Madrid first preferring Jose Mourinho and then moving on to two other targets, Benitez never had the support of the club and was always doomed to fail.
“Benitez was a Coach who was already a dead man walking from the start at Real Madrid. That’s because he wasn’t the chosen one, he was the fourth option,” Calderon pointed out.
“They tried to bring back Mourinho but the Portuguese didn’t want to go back, and he gave some excuses with many conditions.”
