Celta Vigo have confirmed that Hamburg midfielder Marcelo Diaz is on the verge of joining the club.
The Chile international, 29, arrived in Vigo on Thursday to undergo a medical and agree personal terms, both of which have since been formalised, although he is three weeks away from fitness.
Starting his career with Universidad de Chile, Diaz moved to Europe in 2012 with Basel, winning two Swiss titles, participating in as many Champions League campaigns and reaching the Europa League semi-finals in 2013.
He then signed for Hamburg last January and started all of Chile’s six games at Copa America 2015 as his country were crowned champions of the Americas for the first time in their history.
Diaz will act as a direct replacement for Augusto Fernandez, who left for Atletico Madrid earlier in the month.
