Del Piero to take Mallorca role?

Italy and Juventus icon Alessandro Del Piero is reportedly in line for a role with Real Mallorca, now under the ownership of Robert Sarver and Steve Nash.

Del Piero’s link to the island club comes through the Americans who earlier this week took a controlling interest in Los Bermellones.

Sport claims Del Piero could be the team’s new Coach, replacing Albert Ferrer, or even make a short playing comeback, having latterly turned out for Delhi Dynamos in the Indian Super League.

Futbol des Mallorca, meanwhile, cites a report from Marca that says Del Piero will take over from Miguel Angel Nadal as Mallorca sporting director.

NBA legend Nash and Sarver, owner of NBA club Phoenix Suns, are at the front of a group that paid €21m to purchase the Segunda outfit.

Nash and Del Piero are said by Marca to be friends, and with Nash taking a prominent role at the club, as an ambassador, he has been in contact with the Italian.

Mallorca chief executive Maheta Molango had spoken highly of Nadal after the takeover but his future is unclear as Del Piero is expected to assume his role.
