Asier Illarramendi offered encouragement to Sergio Canales after the midfielder reportedly ruptured ligaments in Real Sociedad’s defeat to Real Madrid.
Canales had to be stretchered off shortly before half time after appearing to over stretch his knee, La Real confirming fears of a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament but waiting for more tests to be sure.
“It looks like Canales has torn a ligament. From here I send a lot of encouragement and hope he returns as soon as possible,” Illarra said after the 3-1 defeat, AS reports.
Illarra, who also noted Imanol Agirretxe looks to have sprained his ankle, confirmed returning to Santiago Bernabeu meant a lot to him, but rued the result.
“Coming back is pretty special. I was here for two years and left many friends,” he acknowledged.
“We were in the game at 2-1, but at 3-1 we were dead.”
