‘La Real convinced against Madrid’

Esteban Granero reveals the confidence in the Real Sociedad squad as they prepare to face Real Madrid in the last round of fixtures in 2015.

The Basques travel to the capital for a Wednesday encounter and Granero has told Marca that the team is prepared, and spoke of what it means to him to face his former club, rejecting the suggestion it becomes less special each time.

“On the contrary, it’s more special to play at a ground I love. For me, [Santiago Bernabeu] is the best stadium in the world,” he said.

“It’s where I went to watch games as a child, where I was lucky to play for three seasons and where I grew as a player.

“It feels different [playing home or away against Madrid]. Each is impressive in its way. As a local it can have a big impact. But the feelings are left behind when the game starts. That’s what matters. We want to win and I think we’ve prepared very well for it.

“We’re convinced we can achieve a great result. Being knocked out of the Copa del Rey was annoying because we had high hopes for the competition, but we want to have a very good second part of the League.

“The club has made a commitment to Eusebio that some see as risky, but to me he is very good. I hope a win at the Bernabeu is the beginning of a reaction that takes high up.

“The Coach has trusted me in recent games and I hope it stays that way, because I feel very comfortable with his ideas and my aim at an individual level is to give my best, because that’s what La Real need and deserve.

“The League is hotly contested but I think Madrid are still favourites. Everyone talks about Barca as the best in history and Madrid are there next. Barca have a great team and Atletico Madrid a super competitive squad and a terrific Coach, but I think Madrid will win, despite losing to us tomorrow.

“Hopefully something like what happened last season happens, when we beat Barca and they reacted and won the League, but with Madrid as protagonists this time.”
