‘Benitez coaches Madrid like they’re Getafe’

Former Cadiz Coach David Vidal has taken aim at Real Madrid trainer Rafa Benitez, among others, ahead of the Copa del Rey meeting between the sides.

Vidal, who also sat on the bench at Rayo Vallecano, Villarreal, Elche and Albacete, as well as a host of others, appeared on 4G Radio and was critical of Benitez, Luis Enrique, Cristiano Ronaldo and James Rodriguez.

“Why didn’t Cristiano and Enrique collect their trophies [at the LFP Awards on Monday]?” he wondered aloud, Marca reports.

“Zinedine Zidane? He’s got the best young players in the world in the cantera and Castilla should have been promoted two years ago. He’s struggling a lot.

“Benitez is my friend and I’ll defend him to the death but he has to know he’s at Madrid and he thinks he’s at Getafe.

“When a team plays defensively, the Coach is defensive. When you play like Barcelona, you have to congratulate Enrique.

“People say defence is organised and attack is improvised but that’s a lie. He has the best players in the world and he has to do better. He needs to play brilliant football.

“James has to know he’s at Madrid and there is competition. Madrid signed him because he scored at the World Cup and that wasn’t smart. Isco is a much better player.

“I told Vicente Del Bosque a long time ago that Dani Carvajal is the best right-back in the world. He didn’t take him to the World Cup and he was wrong.”
