Neymar has confirmed that he is in talks with Barcelona over a new contract as it is “my intention is to sign a renewal”.
The Brazilian notched up a further two goals in La Blaugrana’s 4-0 victory over Real Sociedad on Saturday to maintain his side’s four-point lead atop La Liga, and he has now pledged his loyalty to the club after putting to bed recent speculation about his future in light of his tax troubles.
“It’s true that my father told me the tax issues were a problem, but we’re talking all that over,” he said after the game.
“I’m still under contract [with Barca], and my intention is to sign a renewal, of course.
“I’m in the prime of my career. I’m very happy with everything I’m experiencing as I’m helping my teammates in the same way they’ve helped me. I hope I can improve further.
“I think our qualities allow [Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and I] to play together.
“I was looking for Messi [so he could get his goal]. We’re always trying to help each other, and I’m very happy with Messi and Suarez.”
