Barca to renew Sergi

Barcelona are starting the process of renewing Sergi Roberto’s contract in light of his performances this season, it’s reported.

Sport cite other sources as saying La Blaugrana want to increase the midfielder’s release clause to €40m from its current level of €30m, as there’s a concern the fee as it is would be affordable to a big European club.

But there’s no rush as Sergi was only signed to a new deal in 2014, and his existing terms won’t expire until 2019.

It’s also noted that Barca’s hierarchy convinced Sergi to stay at Camp Nou this summer and reject offers from elsewhere as they had faith in him, and so aren’t surprised by his recent displays.
