Sami Khedira has revealed that he left Real Madrid last summer after falling out of love with football.
The midfielder spent five years with Los Blancos but saw his final two seasons at the club ravaged by injury and a subsequent loss of form, prompting him to join Juventus on a Bosman free transfer.
“For over a year, I didn’t feel the joy of playing football,” he told Kicker.
“But I knew I’d find a solution and I didn’t give up.
“With my arrival at Juventus, I wanted to revolve everything around football.
“There are many beautiful things in my life, but my great love is football.
“I’ve regained my feelings of the past. I feel fit and confident again.
“I’m on the right track towards reaching the highest level.
“The changes of the past year have paid off.”
