One of Karim Benzema’s lawyers claims the Real Madrid striker has been “dragged through the mud” in the Mathieu Valbuena blackmail case.
The striker was formally charged with conspiracy to blackmail for his role in negotiating the release of a sex tape involving the Lyon midfielder earlier in the week, while an alleged transcript of his conversation with a friend representing those in possession of the video has been leaked.
“He’s down and he feels exposed. He’s a man who has been dragged through the mud,” Alain Jakubowicz told BFM TV via L’Equipe.
“He feels like an idiot and, at worst, like a criminal.
“Karim will fight for his honour and we will strive to identify the source of everything.
“[On his restraining order], it’s a farce. Never before have I seen a defendant of attempted blackmail before the victim has been heard.”
