Rafa Benitez has reiterated his disdain for Real Madrid’s critics, who “only judge the club on things other than results” ahead of Las Palmas on Saturday.
Speaking at a Press conference ahead of the new boys’ visit, the Coach remained adamant that there were people desperate to pick holes in Los Blancos’ fabric, with his side still being branded as too defensive by certain sections of the media, despite their unbeaten start to the season.
“If I wasn’t a Spaniard or from Madrid, I’d possibly be asking what’s going on, but I'm used to it,” he remarked.
“The anti-Madrid brigade only judge the club on things other [than results].
“The only thing I can do is manage the team and enjoy both our position as League leaders and unbeaten start.
“I can’t afford to waste time on people who judge us on other things.
“It’s always great when historical teams [like Las Palmas] return to La Liga.
“I hope to see a good game, one which we can win and the fans enjoy. I wish [Las Palmas] all the best and that they make the most of their quality after the game.
“It’ll be a difficult game against a team who will try to play and have personality, but we have to also impose our own quality and ambition for the win.
“I said earlier in the season the top teams in this division would lose more points than they usually do and that it’d be very even.
“Atletico [Madrid] have invested in some top-drawer players and will be there or thereabouts, the same with Valencia and Villarreal.
“They have the squads to fight and take points from the teams above them.”
