‘Mel decides on Ceballos’

Joaquin has backed Pepe Mel’s handling of Real Betis starlet Dani Ceballos and called on the team to cut out sloppy mistakes.

The winger was speaking at a promotional event in Seville and was asked about his young teammate Ceballos, and warned against expecting too much of the midfielder.

“It’s the Coach’s decision. He choose when Ceballos plays. Dani has a lot of qualities but he’s very young and there’s a long road ahead,” Joaquin explained, AS reports.

“Mel knows how to do it. We can’t put a weight on top of Ceballos. He’s a player who can do different things. We have to be patient. It will be beneficial for him and for us.”

Joaquin was also asked about Betis’ start to the season, as well as the next fixture against Athletic Bilbao.

“Athletic is an aggressive team that has a lot of intensity. But my concern is Betis only,” he replied.

“If we have the ball we can beat anybody. With the way we play, we have a lot of options to beat anybody.

“We can’t make mistakes [that lead to early goals]. It’s childish. We have to correct them. We have to look at what we did against Real Sociedad, or Valencia, when we were a man down.”

Joaquin concluded by poking fun at in incident between Moto GP riders Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez that, due to Marquez’s involvement, has been front-page news in Spain.

“That kick by Rossi on Marquez was a red card! Of course, I haven’t seen a motorcycle race in my life. I’m more into tennis,” he admitted.
