Benzema out for three weeks

Real Madrid have been dealt a blow with the news that Karim Benzema will be out for three weeks after picking up a hamstring injury on France duty.

The striker hobbled off moments after he scored his second goal in Les Bleus’ 4-0 friendly win against Armenia on Thursday – his first international strikes this calendar year.

“The player is unable to participate in Denmark-France on Sunday and will leave the [France] team this afternoon,” read a statement issued by the French Football Federation (FFF).

Benzema is now expected to undergo further tests in Madrid on Saturday so the severity of his setback can be fully determined.

He is guaranteed to miss Los Blancos’ matches against Levante and Celta Vigo in La Liga and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League and is doubtful for Las Palmas and the return fixture against the French giants.
