Schmidt: One goal wasn’t enough

Bayer Leverkusen Coach Roger Schmidt knew his side were vulnerable as long as they only led Barcelona by a single goal.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos put Leverkusen in front in the first half at Camp Nou, only for Sergi Roberto and Luis Suarez to take the game away from the visitors in the final 10 minutes.

“We’re sad to have lost in the last few minutes,” Schmidt said, AS reports.

“We were very brave at all times. We were compact in defence and had space to counter-attack.

“Barca have the quality they have and nothing happens by chance. We knew one goal wasn’t enough. They pressured us a lot and in the end they equalised and went in front before we knew it.”
