‘Messi will return ahead of schedule’

Argentina team doctor Donato Villani believes Lionel Messi will recover from his ligament tear “in the shortest possible time”.

The No 10 faces up to two months out after he ruptured the medical collateral ligament in his left knee during Barcelona’s 2-1 win against Las Palmas on Saturday.

Nonetheless, Villani is confident that Messi’s “desire to play again and for the injury to heal” will see him back up and running ahead of schedule.

“I’ve known Leo for years and have no doubt that he’ll be ready in the shortest possible time, perhaps before 6-8 weeks,” Villani told Ole.

“Messi gets mad when he can’t play. His desire to play again and for the injury to heal will bear much influence [in his recovery].”
