De Gea-United renewal imminent?

Real Madrid look set to miss out on David de Gea as the goalkeeper is reportedly “hours” away from renewing his contract with Manchester United.

According to Marca, the player's agent Jorge Mendes met with the Red Devils' hierarchy, including manager Louis van Gaal, for two hours on Thursday afternoon.

Consequently, United are believed to have offered De Gea a five-year deal, worth €9m per season, after receiving assurances from the 24-year-old that he is ready to wipe the slate clean at Old Trafford.

BBC Sport has since corroborated the newspaper's claim, although the British outlet is only reporting that talks are ongoing.

On Wednesday, Florentino Perez ruled out Madrid returning to the negotiating table for De Gea in January following their failed swoop on transfer deadline-day last month
