Nuno talks up La Liga mini-tier

Nuno Santo has claimed that Valencia are aiming to “finish top behind Real Madrid and Barcelona” in La Liga this season.

Los Che finished fourth on the final day of the previous campaign, thereby securing Champions League football for 2015-16, courtesy of a playoff victory over Monaco, and the Coach believes his side face another battle on their hands to remain in the top four.

“In the League, there are two teams who want to make a difference. Barcelona and Real Madrid are the teams who want to win everything,” he told Star TV Malaysia.

“After that, I think that Atletico Madrid have a very good squad for the long haul. They have signed some top players, along with Sevilla.

“Below them are Villarreal and Athletic Bilbao. I think we'll fight with all these teams to finish 'top' behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.

“We're approaching this season with great respect and I don't think anyone can predict what will happen in the League.

“Last season, we saw a competitive La Liga, in which nothing was decided until the final game. We didn't know if we were heading for the Europa League or Champions League playoffs.

“It's very difficult to predict the results and I expect another tough campaign.”
