Van Gaal unsure over De Gea

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal admits he “doesn't know” whether David de Gea will join Real Madrid before the transfer window closes.

The goalkeeper has not featured for the Red Devils since July 29, with concerns over his mental state cited as the reason for his subsequent exile from the first team.

“I don't know. We have to wait and see but I don't want to interfere,” the Dutchman told Sky Sports after United's 2-1 defeat to Swansea City on Sunday.

“As a manager we have divided our tasks and the task is for [chief executive] Ed Woodward and not for me.

“You can ask all the players but you have to wait and see until Manchester United make an announcement, or the club where he is going to make an announcement. Otherwise he stays.

“But we have coped with the situation by buying [Sergio] Romero. That is what we have done as a club to settle that issue. We have done it well.”

Marca claims De Gea continues to “dream” about Madrid, although a move is not expected to happen unless Los Blancos successfully drive down United's €40m asking price before midnight Tuesday.
