Benitez: Madrid lacked precision

Rafa Benitez has admitted that Real Madrid “lacked precision” during Sunday's goalless draw at Sporting Gijon in La Liga.

Los Blancos were held to a fifth stalemate in nine matches under the former Valencia Coach at El Molinon, but he insists their failure to unlock the new boys should not be viewed as a cause for concern at this early stage.

“The lack of precision in our final pass and success with our finishing [were the main shortcomings of my team in the match],” he said after the game.

“[However, the most positive feature of our performance was] our response in the second half.

“Sporting applied a lot of intensity in their pressing. We knew what the game would be like, so we needed to be very intense in order to achieve something positive.

“It's only the beginning of the season and we have many adjustments to make.”
