Iraizoz: This is for everyone

Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Gorka Iraizoz reflected on what winning the Supercopa de Espana means after Barcelona were beaten over two legs.

Iraizoz kept goal as Athletic took a 4-0 lead at San Mames and then recorded a 1-1 draw at Camp Nou to claim a first trophy since 1984.

“With everything we’ve been through, this is a prize for everyone who formed Athletic,” he said, AS reports.

“I was four years old when Athletic last won a trophy. It’s a very nice feeling. This is for Bilbao and for all of us. This is for everyone.

“Andoni Iraola is part of this too because he is part of the family of Athletic. He’s an Athletic fan and I’m sure he’s very pleased on New York.

“I’m very happy because it is a long time without winning a trophy,” he continued, according to Mundo Deportivo.

“We were ourselves, doing what we do: pressing, winning the ball. It’s difficult to play Barca at Camp Nou. You have to know how you’re playing at all times and be strong.

“Scoring a goal was very important for us and made us relax.

“Barca are always Barca. They can score a lot of goals in any situation. Last year they scored five at home. They had chances for more goals but we did well.”
