Rafa Benitez has confirmed that Karim Benzema forms part of his plans for Real Madrid after challenging him to score 25 goals this season.
The Frenchman had been heavily linked with Arsenal after he appeared to have fallen behind Cristiano Ronaldo in the pecking order of lone striker, but the Coach insists the 27-year-old has a big role to play under his stewardship.
“Having alternatives in any position always helps,” he told El Pais.
“Benzema is a great player, and one of my ideas this season is for him to exceed the barrier of 20-25 oals.
“I have a lot of faith in him, and Benzema has enough resources to compete with any other striker.
“Ronaldo, for example, is an extraordinary header of the ball..
“I’ll have a team who play neat football and promote individual improvement.
“The most important thing is to have a clear game plan. Ours is to keep the ball. We’ll keep attacking until May.”
