Villarreal defender Pablo Iniguez has confirmed that Gerard Moreno is set to join Espanyol in a reported co-ownership deal.
Mundo Deportivo claims Los Periquitos will pay €1.5m for half of the Catalan native’s economic rights, thereby ending their pursuit of a new attacker following the departures of Lucas Vazquez, Sergio Garcia and Christian Stuani earlier in the summer.
“It seems Gerard will bid us farewell [on Thursday],” the young stopper was quoted as saying by AS.
“Gerard’s departure to Espanyol was something that had been talked about some time ago.
“We all knew that [Espanyol] were an option for him. It’s a shame as we’ve played with him for a long time and I can say that he’s one of my best friends in football.
“I’m sad that he’s leaving, but I’ll wish him well after we play [Espanyol] in the second round of fixtures.”
