Javier Mascherano believes Pedro Rodriguez must stay at Barcelona following Tuesday’s UEFA Super Cup triumph. “He’s made for special occasions like these.”
Robert Fernandez, Barca’s new sporting director, admitted before kick-off against Sevilla that the winger wanted to leave the club, but he came off the substitutes’ bench in extra time to fire his side to their fourth trophy of 2015.
“Surely for the neturals, they would have rarely seen a game like this one, but we felt some frustration on our part,” the midfielder said after the game.
“We had [the game] in our hands and let it go. We’re happy to have won, but we must improve on certain things. We made life difficult for ourselves.
“We fell away and let them into the game, but we regained control when we needed to. The individual ability of the squad helped us win another trophy.
“Hopefully [Pedro] can continue here. He’s one of those players who are made for special occasions like these and still with us for the time being.”
