Van Gaal ‘wants to keep De Gea’

Louis van Gaal has made it clear that Manchester United do not want to sell David de Gea to Real Madrid this month, despite his Tottenham Hotspur no-show.

The goalkeeper was dropped for United’s 1-0 opening-day victory in the Premier League on Saturday, but the Dutchman has insisted that – despite reports claiming otherwise – he wants the 24-year-old to stay put.

“I cannot say [if De Gea will stay], I’m not the most important part. That is the player and of course the club who wants to buy him,” he told BT Sport, as per the Daily Mail.

“He is our best player and, for three years already, has been chosen by the fans so we cannot let him go so easily.

“We have to pay a lot of money for the players we want and we want to sell at the same level, and when we want to sell.

“We want to keep him of course. I don’t want to interfere in that because it’s not the place and it’s not your business either.”
