Reyes: Vela convinced me

Diego Reyes has revealed that fellow Mexico international Carlos Vela played a key role in convincing him to join Real Sociedad.

The 22-year-old recently completed a season-long loan to Anoeta from Porto and is ready to help his new employers qualify for Europe in 2015-16, fresh from contributing to El Tricolor’s Gold Cup triumph over Jamaica.

“Carlos Vela told me many good things about [La Real]. He’s been a big help,” he said at his official unveiling on Thursday.

“I believe Real Sociedad will help me grow as a person and player and hope the team can qualify for Europe [this season].

“I think that I’m a good passer. I’m quick and I read the game well.”

Sporting director Loren added: “[Reyes’ arrival serves to] address the profile of player we needed. The players who have joined already feel at home.

“[Coach David] Moyes is pleased with the efforts that we’ve made in the transfer market. We aspire to qualify for Europe this season.”
