Van Gaal turns to Pepe?

Manchester United have turned their attentions to Pepe, according to reports, after being frustrated in their attempt to take Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid.

AS cites claims from England that say Louis Van Gaal’s search for a centre-back has landed on the Portugal international.

Pepe, said to be close to a new Madrid contract, has yet to put pen-to-paper on a deal, and his current terms expire in 2016.

He would, as it stands, be free to speak to United from January, and United may bring up Pepe’s name when speaking to Madrid about David De Gea.

Pepe has to fight Ramos and Raphael Varane for a place under Rafa Benitez, AS point out, and Madrid have also signed Jesus Vallejo from Real Zaragoza, a long-term option at centre-back.
