Argentina Coach Tata Martino has hinted he will name Barcelona forward Lionel Messi in the squad to play Mexico.
Martino, who worked with Messi at Camp Nou for a year in 2013-14, denied reports the attacker had stepped away from the national team, starting with the game against El Tri.
“Messi hasn’t made himself unavailable for the match with Mexico. You’ll find out when I name my squad next week,” Martino is quoted as saying by Marca.
“I think Messi’s Copa America performances were his best in an Argentina shirt. I can’t even think of criticism. I find it amazing. It doesn’t stand up to any analysis.
“I can’t imagine a team without Messi. As an Argentine it would be a great disappointment because no one can think of not having the best player in the world.”
