Jose Mourinho has responded to comments from the wife of Real Madrid Coach Rafa Benitez by advising Monserrat Seara to focus on her husband.
Seara said earlier this week that with Benitez three times having taken a job recently held by Mourinho, it was as if the former Valencia and Liverpool boss was ‘cleaning up Mourinho’s mess.’
The line appeared to be largely tongue-in-cheek but drew a stern rebuke from the Chelsea manager, speaking after his side beat Barcelona on penalties in a pre-season friendly.
“The lady is confused and it’s not a joke. In the case of Chelsea, he replaced [Roberto] Di Matteo and at Madrid, he’s replaced [Carlo] Ancelotti, not me,” Mourinho replied, Marca reports.
“He replaced me at Inter and took six months to destroy the team.
“She should take care of his things instead of me. If she took care of her husband’s diet she wouldn’t have to talk about me.”
Mourinho also offered a titbit on the fitness of Diego Costa, who appeared to suffer from an injury during the game against the Catalans.
“He felt something muscular. We’ll have to wait,” Mourinho confirmed.
