Dani Carvajal denies there’s a leadership void in the Real Madrid locker room after Iker Casillas’ exit. ‘Our captain is Sergio Ramos.’
Ramos has himself been heavily linked with a move away from Santiago Bernabeu but Carvajal made clear the centre-back has the support of his teammates.
“Sergio is our captain and I’m sure he’ll do well. I only know that he is a Madrid player today and he’s focused on Madrid’s games. I don’t see him in another shirt,” the right-back said, AS reports.
“He’s won a lot and has many years at the club to get ready for that role and I’m sure he’ll do well,” Carvajal continued before discussing the competition for places at the club.
“Competition is always good for the team. Madrid will benefit. Danilo is a great player. Any Coach wants two players for a position and a problem in who to start.
“We’ll try to make it difficult for the Coach to solve that problem.”
Carvajal was also asked about Spain colleague David De Gea, but offered little information on the status of the Manchester United goalkeeper.
“He’s my friend but I didn’t speak to him with the national team. He’s not a Madrid player and it’s not an issue for me,” he insisted.
