Busquets: Pedro wants to play

Sergio Busquets confirms he has spoken with Pedro Rodriguez about his future and insists a lack of playing time is at the heart of his possible Barcelona exit.

Pedro has been linked with Manchester United and while Busquets didn’t repeat exactly what was said in their conversation, he did hint at the winger’s departure.

“I’ve talked to him but I won’t reveal what was said. The choice is his and it’s normal to have doubts,” the midfielder said, AS reports.

“He wants to play and there was a lot of competition here last year. The best players are here. As a friend I hope he stays here. Manchester United are always a great team.”

Busquets has seen Xavi Hernandez leave Barca this summer and was asked by reporters about the veteran’s absence, and how he is stepping into the leadership void.

“I miss Xavi a lot. I was always with him. I notice him missing in the locker room and beyond,” he admitted.

“I’ve noticed him missing in the national team. On and off the field he was a leader, but hopefully we can resolve his absence.

“I have to step up, although Andres Iniesta and Lionel Messi are ahead of me [as Barca captains]. But for me it is an honour and a dream to represent Barca.

“Being at Barcelona is a wonderful thing but I’ve worked hard for it.”
