Benitez: Ramos 100% staying

Rafa Benitez doesn’t expect Sergio Ramos to leave Real Madrid, but does admit football’s unpredictability means things could change.

Ramos has been strongly linked with Manchester United amid reports that claim he wants to leave Santiago Bernabeu but speaking at a Press conference in Australia, Benitez emphasised the defender’s importance while acknowledging the situation may change quickly.

United manager Louis Van Gaal has commented about Ramos in recent days, saying there is a process at work, and the future of David De Gea is said to be tied to that of Ramos.

“For me he will 100% be in Madrid. Football is like life, unpredictable, but I think he is key and the club do too,” the Coach said, AS reports.

“Van Gaal? I have respect for him but what concerns me is that Sergio stays. De Gea isn’t out player so there’s nothing to say.

“Ramos is a key player for us and I hope and wish he is here at the beginning of the season, because I think he will be crucial for us.”

Benitez added regarding transfers that, in his opinion, the squad is already strong and he is in no rush to see new faces added to it.

“I think I’ve said we have a good team and a good squad. My responsibility is to work to my best,” he continued.

“The market is open until August 31 or whenever. We have to continue to improve a group that is already very good. That’s the responsibility.”
