‘Sevilla earned Super Cup place’

Unai Emery believes Sevilla couldn’t have a more difficult European Super Cup opponent than Barcelona but his team earned their place in the match.

Emery’s Europa League winners meet Luis Enrique’s Champions League victors in the showpiece in Georgia on August 11 and Emery has been looking ahead to the fixture.

“The first major objective is in Georgia where we face the most demanding team in the world at present,” he said, AS reports.

“It will be a challenge, but don’t forget that if we are in the Super Cup, it’s because we earned it.

“After Tbilisi come Malaga, then the Champions League. The team understood perfectly last season and that’s what we want to instil this year.

“Our goal is to achieve a good starting group where players can bring out their individual qualities. Gradually we’re getting what we want.

“We’ve done a lot of physical work [this summer] but we’ve also worked on technical and tactical aspects for the players, especially the new ones.”
