Barca candidates make final pledges

Barcelona’s presidential candidates have all made their final pledges to the media ahead of tonight’s election announcement.

Thousands of Barca socios have flocked to Camp Nou to cast their vote today, with a two-way battle expected between former Presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Joan Laporta.

“The atmosphere is amazing, it’s a democratic party,” said Bartomeu, reports Sport.

“Barca have proven themselves to be a very democratic club, who let anyone in.”

Meanwhile, Laporta, who reigned between 2003 and 2010, asserted: “I have a feeling that we’ll win the elections.

“I have seen many people giving us their support. Many Barcelonistas are responding because they understand that a lot is at stake.

Agusti Benedito, one of Laporta’s former aides, noted: “This time around, we have a chance to win the elections.

“It feels somewhat calmer than in 2010, but I still wanted to come and experience the atmosphere [of polling day].

Last but not least, Toni Freixa, who worked under both Bartomeu and Laporta, concluded: “I feel very calm.

“We’re battling for Barca’s immediate future and the socios have always been responsible.”
